The Dismal Science Excellent site,
where you can find what you need and get out in five minutes. The first one to
figure out who is funding the site, please let me know.
Decision-Risk
Analysis Not strictly an economics link, but an interesting company website
nonetheless. Check out their software package Analytica.
Economic
Policy Institute Feeling nostalgic? Pining for the days when Keynsianism and
general market distrust was "in"? Well pull on a pair of polyester bell-bottoms,
brush off your radical chic nehru (NAIRU?) jacket, and visit this site. Actually,
it's not a bad resource. Founders and contributors: Barry Bluestone, Robert Kuttner,
Ray Marshall, Robert Reich, and Lester Thurow. No agenda here, eh?
Economagic - One of the best! Free data series, already in excel (no =Left(n,n) functions required!)
FRED database
Managed by the St. Louis branch, it is actually the better place to go for data.
Ibbotson
Associates Rather disappointing, if you're looking for free listings and prices
of their data series products. However some papers are available.
IMF
Your tax contributions at work, let's keep those foreign currencies low and keep rolling that debt over! OK data source, shares a library with the World
Bank below.
WorldTradeOrgI get the feeling when doing queries that not a lot of their material is
online yet. Better site for news on their new logo(!) than for trade figures.
GLOBAL
INVESTOR - home Go on, muss your hair up and speak with a hungarian accent. Say "Moose and Squirrel" like you mean it.
WinStar
Telebase's Brainwave I don't really have a need for their information, so
I haven't tried them out, but I'd probably come here if I needed data on specific
companies.
Business &
Finance Links Customs House links page, Canadian emphasis. Unfortunately,
a lot of these links are 404.
The
Economist I can't believe it's free! And you can search! [Note: Well, it was free, back in 1997 when I first put this list together. Still a lot of good stuff free though.]
The
Wall Street Journal Worth every dollar of the extra 30 that it costs per year
for print subscribers. Includes Barrons below to boot. And
you can search! [Note: They've since limited the scope of their online search capacity, since Factiva moved in.]
Barrons
This is one where I still prefer the print version.
The
Financial Times Another "I can't believe it's free!" paper. And
you can search!
Forbes I'd start subscribing if $1 of my rate would go to Steve Forbes running for president again.
Intellectual
Capital Well done, online news, worthy of inclusion if only because I have
not seen this in print.
FortuneMagazine
The People Magazine of the financial news world. Want to know what stocks
Brad Pitt is buying?
Discover
Direct Formerly Lombard, rated #1 by Barrons. Great research, cheap ($14.95)
trades. No account setup minimums if you already have a Discover credit card.
I've checked a number of them out, and like this one best.
